A resurgent Medvedev secured his maiden title for 882 days with a win over Corentin Moutet in the tournament title decider.

Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has had a challenging year, managing just one win at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the American major.

His varied form on the professional circuit - and issues with his serving in particular - resulted in him dropping out of the world's top 10 and finally parting ways with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.

Now training with his coach and his other coach, the tennis star has consistently progressed in the last few weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over opponent Corentin Moutet.

It is the player's initial title following the Rome competition and first on a hardcourt since that period of the previous year.

Victory also means the Russian has achieved twenty-one titles at twenty-one various competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a event with my children at once, so to win a title is particularly special," said world number 14 Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my child her name, because the initial championship I won when my child my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had been defeated in his past six championship matches, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.

His counter-punching strategy and frequent outbursts on court had prompted commentators to wonder if his ability to compete at the highest level was finished.

But the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the last few weeks, striving to approach the net and perform positively, backed up by an improved serve.

Medvedev came back from a deficit in the opening set against the tricky opponent, winning four of the concluding five points to gain the advantage.

The competitors exchanged service breaks in the second set before the challenger, striving for his initial professional title, gained dominance to push for a third set.

The opponent saved four early-game opportunities in a competitive deciding set before the champion won the break to 15 to secure the win.

Suitably, he secured the win with a point at the net area, with his opponent failing to manage a shot after a lengthy match.
